MiracleLinux 4 : ImageMagick-6.5.4.7-6.AXS4 (AXSA:2012-659:01)

high Nessus Plugin ID 283978

Synopsis

The remote MiracleLinux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote MiracleLinux 4 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the AXSA:2012-659:01 advisory.

ImageMagick is an image display and manipulation tool for the X Window System. ImageMagick can read and write JPEG, TIFF, PNM, GIF, and Photo CD image formats. It can resize, rotate, sharpen, color reduce, or add special effects to an image, and when finished you can either save the completed work in the original format or a different one. ImageMagick also includes command line programs for creating animated or transparent .gifs, creating composite images, creating thumbnail images, and more.
ImageMagick is one of your choices if you need a program to manipulate and display images. If you want to develop your own applications which use ImageMagick code or APIs, you need to install ImageMagick-devel as well.
Security issues fixed with this release:
CVE-2010-4167 Untrusted search path vulnerability in configure.c in ImageMagick before 6.6.5-5, when MAGICKCORE_INSTALLED_SUPPORT is defined, allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse configuration file in the current working directory.
CVE-2012-0247 ImageMagick 6.7.5-7 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) and possibly execute arbitrary code via crafted offset and count values in the ResolutionUnit tag in the EXIF IFD0 of an image.
CVE-2012-0248 ImageMagick 6.7.5-7 and earlier allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (infinite loop and hang) via a crafted image whose IFD contains IOP tags that all reference the beginning of the IDF.
CVE-2012-0259 The GetEXIFProperty function in magick/property.c in ImageMagick before 6.7.6-3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a zero value in the component count of an EXIF XResolution tag in a JPEG file, which triggers an out-of-bounds read.
CVE-2012-0260 The JPEGWarningHandler function in coders/jpeg.c in ImageMagick before 6.7.6-3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory consumption) via a JPEG image with a crafted sequence of restart markers.
CVE-2012-1798 The TIFFGetEXIFProperties function in coders/tiff.c in ImageMagick before 6.7.6-3 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (out-of-bounds read and crash) via a crafted EXIF IFD in a TIFF image.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the MiracleLinux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected ImageMagick and / or ImageMagick-c++ packages.
