VLC < 3.0.22 Multiple Vulnerabilities

critical Nessus Plugin ID 283730

Synopsis

The remote host contains a media player that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of VLC media player installed on the remote host is prior to 3.0.22. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities. If successful, a malicious third party could trigger a crash of VLC (Denial of service). While these issues in themselves are most likely to just crash the application, we can't exclude that they could be combined to leak user information or remotely execute code. ASLR and DEP help reduce the likeliness of code execution, but may be bypassed.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to VLC version 3.0.22 or later.
