Synopsis

The remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of Elasticsearch installed on the remote host is 7.0 prior to 8.19.8, 9.0 prior to 9.1.8, or 9.2.0 prior to 9.2.2. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ESA-2025-27 advisory.

 - Insertion of sensitive information in log file in Elasticsearch can lead to loss of confidentiality under specific preconditions when auditing requests to the reindex API. (CVE-2025-37731)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Elasticsearch version 8.19.8, 9.1.8, and 9.2.2 as appropriate for your release branch.
