macOS 26.x < 26.2 Multiple Vulnerabilities (125886)

high Nessus Plugin ID 278572

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a macOS update that fixes multiple vulnerabilities

Description

The remote host is running a version of macOS / Mac OS X that is 26.x prior to 26.2. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A vulnerability has been identified in the libarchive library. This flaw can be triggered when file streams are piped into bsdtar, potentially allowing for reading past the end of the file. This out-of- bounds read can lead to unintended consequences, including unpredictable program behavior, memory corruption, or a denial-of-service condition. (CVE-2025-5918)

- libcurl's ASN1 parser code has the `GTime2str()` function, used for parsing an ASN.1 Generalized Time field. If given an syntactically incorrect field, the parser might end up using -1 for the length of the
*time fraction*, leading to a `strlen()` getting performed on a pointer to a heap buffer area that is not (purposely) null terminated. This flaw most likely leads to a crash, but can also lead to heap contents getting returned to the application when [CURLINFO_CERTINFO](https://curl.se/libcurl/c/CURLINFO_CERTINFO.html) is used. (CVE-2024-7264)

- Incorrect security UI in Downloads in Google Chrome prior to 129.0.6668.58 allowed a remote attacker who convinced a user to engage in specific UI gestures to perform UI spoofing via a crafted HTML page.
(Chromium security severity: Medium) (CVE-2024-8906)

- Out of bounds memory access in ANGLE in Google Chrome on Mac prior to 143.0.7499.110 allowed a remote attacker to perform out of bounds memory access via a crafted HTML page. (Chromium security severity:
High) (CVE-2025-14174)

- The issue was addressed with improved handling of caches. This issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.2, macOS Sonoma 14.8.2. An attacker with physical access may be able to view deleted notes. (CVE-2025-43410)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the operating system's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to macOS 26.2 or later.
