macOS 15.x < 15.7.3 Multiple Vulnerabilities (125887)

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a macOS update that fixes multiple vulnerabilities

Description

The remote host is running a version of macOS / Mac OS X that is 15.x prior to 15.7.3. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities:

- A vulnerability has been identified in the libarchive library. This flaw can be triggered when file streams are piped into bsdtar, potentially allowing for reading past the end of the file. This out-of- bounds read can lead to unintended consequences, including unpredictable program behavior, memory corruption, or a denial-of-service condition. (CVE-2025-5918)

- libcurl's ASN1 parser code has the `GTime2str()` function, used for parsing an ASN.1 Generalized Time field. If given an syntactically incorrect field, the parser might end up using -1 for the length of the
*time fraction*, leading to a `strlen()` getting performed on a pointer to a heap buffer area that is not (purposely) null terminated. This flaw most likely leads to a crash, but can also lead to heap contents getting returned to the application when [CURLINFO_CERTINFO](https://curl.se/libcurl/c/CURLINFO_CERTINFO.html) is used. (CVE-2024-7264)

- The issue was addressed by adding additional logic. This issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.3. An app may be able to bypass launch constraint protections and execute malicious code with elevated privileges.
(CVE-2025-43320)

- A logic issue was addressed with improved restrictions. This issue is fixed in macOS Sonoma 14.8.3, macOS Sequoia 15.7.3. An app may be able to access protected user data. (CVE-2025-43416)

- A parsing issue in the handling of directory paths was addressed with improved path validation. This issue is fixed in macOS Sonoma 14.8.3, macOS Tahoe 26.1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.3. An app may be able to access sensitive user data. (CVE-2025-43463)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the operating system's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to macOS 15.7.3 or later.
