Mozilla Thunderbird < 115.0.1

high Nessus Plugin ID 275656

Synopsis

A mail client installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Thunderbird installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is prior to 115.0.1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the mfsa2023-27 advisory.

- During the worker lifecycle, a use-after-free condition could have occured, which could have led to a potentially exploitable crash. (CVE-2023-3600)

- Thunderbird allowed the Text Direction Override Unicode Character in filenames. An email attachment could be incorrectly shown as being a document file, while in fact it was an executable file. Newer versions of Thunderbird will strip the character and show the correct file extension. (CVE-2023-3417)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Thunderbird version 115.0.1 or later.
