Mozilla Firefox < 51.0.3

critical Nessus Plugin ID 275637

Synopsis

A web browser installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of Firefox installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is prior to 51.0.3. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the mfsa2017-04 advisory.

- The cache directory on the local file system is set to be world writable. Firefox defaults to extracting libraries from this cache. This allows for the possibility of an installed malicious application or tools with write access to the file system to replace files used by Firefox with their own versions.
(CVE-2017-5397)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Firefox version 51.0.3 or later.
