Mozilla Thunderbird < 115.0.1

high Nessus Plugin ID 275619

Synopsis

A mail client installed on the remote Windows host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Thunderbird installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 115.0.1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the mfsa2023-27 advisory.

- Thunderbird allowed the Text Direction Override Unicode Character in filenames. An email attachment could be incorrectly shown as being a document file, while in fact it was an executable file. Newer versions of Thunderbird will strip the character and show the correct file extension. (CVE-2023-3417)

- During the worker lifecycle, a use-after-free condition could have occurred, which could have led to a potentially exploitable crash. (CVE-2023-3600)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Thunderbird version 115.0.1 or later.
