Synopsis

Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) is affected by a remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

The version of Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) on the remote Windows host is prior to 2.6.2. It is, therefore, affected by a remote code execution vulnerability:

- Heap-based buffer overflow in Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI allows an unauthorized attacker to execute code over a network. (CVE-2025-62220)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL2) version 2.6.2 or later via the Microsoft Store.
