Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2023 host is missing a security update.

Description

It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2023-2025-1248 advisory.

 YAML::Syck versions before 1.36 for Perl has missing null-terminators which causes out-of-bounds read and potential information disclosure

 Missing null terminators in token.c leads to but-of-bounds read which allows adjacent variable to be read

 The issue is seen with complex YAML files with a hash of all keys and empty values. There is no indication that the issue leads to accessing memory outside that allocated to the module. (CVE-2025-11683)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'dnf update perl-YAML-Syck --releasever 2023.9.20251027' or or 'dnf update --advisory ALAS2023-2025-1248 --releasever 2023.9.20251027' to update your system.
