Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of polkit installed on the remote host is prior to 0.112-26. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2025-3024 advisory.

 A flaw was found in polkit. When processing an XML policy with 32 or more nested elements in depth, an out-of-bounds write can be triggered. This issue can lead to a crash or other unexpected behavior, and arbitrary code execution is not discarded. To exploit this flaw, a high-privilege account is needed as it's required to place the malicious policy file properly. (CVE-2025-7519)

Solution

Run 'yum update polkit' or or 'yum update --advisory ALAS2-2025-3024' to update your system.
