Unity Linux 20.1050e / 20.1060e / 20.1070e Security Update: xorg-x11-server (UTSA-2025-984875)

high Nessus Plugin ID 267835

Synopsis

The Unity Linux host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The Unity Linux 20 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the UTSA-2025-984875 advisory.

A buffer overflow flaw was found in X.Org and Xwayland. The code in XkbVModMaskText() allocates a fixed- sized buffer on the stack and copies the names of the virtual modifiers to that buffer. The code fails to check the bounds of the buffer and would copy the data regardless of the size.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Unity Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected xorg-x11-server package.
