Synopsis

An application installed on the remote macOS host is affected by an elevation of privilege vulnerability.

Description

The version of Microsoft AutoUpdate installed on the remote macOS ost is prior to 4.80. It is, therefore, affected by an elevation of privilege vulnerability:

 - Improper link resolution before file access ('link following') in Microsoft AutoUpdate (MAU) allows an authorized attacker to elevate privileges locally. (CVE-2025-55317)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft AutoUpdate verison 4.80 or later.
