TencentOS Server 3: thunderbird (TSSA-2023:0042)

high Nessus Plugin ID 238783

Synopsis

The remote TencentOS Server 3 host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The version of Tencent Linux installed on the remote TencentOS Server 3 host is prior to tested version. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the TSSA-2023:0042 advisory.

Package updates are available for TencentOS Server 3 that fix the following vulnerabilities:

CVE-2023-25752:
The Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory describes the issue that when accessing throttled streams, the count of available bytes needs to be checked in the calling function to be within bounds. This may have led future code to be incorrect and vulnerable.

CVE-2023-25751:
The Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory describes the issue of invalidating JIT code while following an iterator. The newly generated code could be overwritten incorrectly, leading to a potentially exploitable crash.

CVE-2023-28176:
The Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory described the issue in which Mozilla developers Timothy Nikkel, Andrew McCreight, and the Mozilla Fuzzing Team reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 110 and ESR 102.8. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption, and we presume that with enough effort, some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code.

CVE-2023-28164:
The Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory described the issue of dragging a URL from a cross-origin iframe that was removed during the drag could have led to user confusion and website spoofing attacks.

CVE-2023-28162:
The Mozilla Foundation Security Advisory describes the issue that while implementing AudioWorklets, some code may have cast one type to another, invalid, dynamic type. This could have led to a potentially exploitable crash.

CVE-2023-25737:
An invalid downcast from nsTextNode to SVGElement could have lead to undefined behavior.

CVE-2023-25735:
Cross-compartment wrappers wrapping a scripted proxy could have caused objects from other compartments to be stored in the main compartment resulting in a use-after-free after unwrapping the proxy.

CVE-2023-25729:
Permission prompts for opening external schemes were only shown for ContentPrincipals resulting in extensions being able to open them without user interaction via ExpandedPrincipals. This could lead to further malicious actions such as downloading files or interacting with software already installed on the system.

CVE-2023-0767:
An attacker could construct a PKCS 12 cert bundle in such a way that could allow for arbitrary memory writes via PKCS 12 Safe Bag attributes being mishandled.

CVE-2023-0616:
If a MIME email combines OpenPGP and OpenPGP MIME data in a certain way Thunderbird repeatedly attempts to process and display the message, which could cause Thunderbird's user interface to lock up and no longer respond to the user's actions. An attacker could send a crafted message with this structure to attempt a DoS attack.

CVE-2023-25739:
Module load requests that failed were not being checked as to whether or not they were cancelled causing a use-after-free in ScriptLoadContext.

CVE-2023-0430:
Certificate OCSP revocation status was not checked when verifying S/Mime signatures. Mail signed with a revoked certificate would be displayed as having a valid signature. Thunderbird versions from 68 to 102.7.0 were affected by this bug.

CVE-2023-25732:
When encoding data from an inputStream in xpcom the size of the input being encoded was not correctly calculated potentially leading to an out of bounds memory write.

CVE-2023-25742:
When importing a SPKI RSA public key as ECDSA P-256, the key would be handled incorrectly causing the tab to crash.

CVE-2023-25743:
A lack of in app notification for entering fullscreen mode could have lead to a malicious website spoofing browser chrome.

CVE-2023-25744:
Mozilla developers Kershaw Chang and the Mozilla Fuzzing Team reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox 109 and Firefox ESR 102.7. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code.

CVE-2023-25746:
Mozilla developers Philipp and Gabriele Svelto reported memory safety bugs present in Firefox ESR 102.7.
Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code.

CVE-2023-25728:
The Content-Security-Policy-Report-Only header could allow an attacker to leak a child iframe's unredacted URI when interaction with that iframe triggers a redirect.

CVE-2023-25730:
A background script invoking requestFullscreen and then blocking the main thread could force the browser into fullscreen mode indefinitely, resulting in potential user confusion or spoofing attacks.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Tencent Linux security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.
