Synopsis

A web browser installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is affected by multiple vulnerabilities.

Description

The version of Firefox ESR installed on the remote macOS or Mac OS X host is prior to 115.14. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the mfsa2024-34 advisory.

 - Unexpected marking work at the start of sweeping could have led to a use-after-free. (CVE-2024-7527)

 - Insufficient checks when processing graphics shared memory could have led to memory corruption. This could be leveraged by an attacker to perform a sandbox escape. (CVE-2024-7519)

 - Incomplete WebAssembly exception handing could have led to a use-after-free. (CVE-2024-7521)

 - Editor code failed to check an attribute value. This could have led to an out-of-bounds read.
 (CVE-2024-7522)

 - Firefox adds web-compatibility shims in place of some tracking scripts blocked by Enhanced Tracking Protection. On a site protected by Content Security Policy in strict-dynamic mode, an attacker able to inject an HTML element could have used a DOM Clobbering attack on some of the shims and achieved XSS, bypassing the CSP strict-dynamic protection. (CVE-2024-7524)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mozilla Firefox ESR version 115.14 or later.
