Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 18.04 LTS : HAProxy vulnerability (USN-6530-2)

high Nessus Plugin ID 203692

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 LTS / 18.04 LTS host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-6530-2 advisory.

Seth Manesse and Paul Plasil discovered that HAProxy incorrectly handled

URI components containing the hash character (#). A remote attacker could

possibly use this issue to obtain sensitive information, or to bypass

certain path_end rules.

Tenable has extracted the preceding description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected haproxy and / or vim-haproxy packages.
