Synopsis

The remote Fedora host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Fedora 40 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the FEDORA-2024-4115ab9959 advisory.

 - A Buffer Overflow in Wireshark before 4.2.0 allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via the wsutil/to_str.c, and format_fractional_part_nsecs components. NOTE: this is disputed by the vendor because neither release 4.2.0 nor any other release was affected. (CVE-2024-24479)

 - A buffer overflow in Wireshark before 4.2.0 allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service via the pan/addr_resolv.c, and ws_manuf_lookup_str(), size components. NOTE: this is disputed by the vendor because neither release 4.2.0 nor any other release was affected. (CVE-2024-24476)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected 1:wireshark package.
