Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing a security update for libX11.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the RHSA-2024:1417 advisory.

- libX11: InitExt.c can overwrite unintended portions of the Display structure if the extension request leads to a buffer overflow (CVE-2023-3138)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL libX11 package based on the guidance in RHSA-2024:1417.
