Mobatek MobaXterm 11.1 / 12.1 (CVE-2019-16305)

high Nessus Plugin ID 192155

Synopsis

The remote host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of Mobatek MobaXterm installed on the remote host is 11.1 and 12.1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the CVE-2019-16305 advisory.

- In MobaXterm 11.1 and 12.1, the protocol handler is vulnerable to command injection. A crafted link can trigger a popup asking whether the user wants to run MobaXterm to handle the link. If accepted, another popup appears asking for further confirmation. If this is also accepted, command execution is achieved, as demonstrated by the MobaXterm://`calc` URI. (CVE-2019-16305)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade Mobatek MobaXterm based upon the guidance specified in the linked advisory.
