Dell Client BIOS DoS (DSA-2023-467)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 191635

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch

Description

The Dell BIOS on the remote device is missing a security patch and is, therefore, affected by an improper NULL termination vulnerability that can result in a denial of service (DoS) condition. A high-privilege user with network access to the affected device can send malicious data to the device in order to cause some services to cease to function.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the security patch in accordance with the vendor advisory.
