Synopsis

The remote CentOS host is missing a security update for expat.

Description

The remote CentOS Linux 9 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the expat-2.5.0-1.el9 build changelog.

 - In libexpat through 2.4.9, there is a use-after free caused by overeager destruction of a shared DTD in XML_ExternalEntityParserCreate in out-of-memory situations. (CVE-2022-43680)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the CentOS 9 Stream expat package.
