Ubuntu 16.04 ESM / 18.04 ESM / 20.04 LTS : Apache::Session::LDAP vulnerability (USN-6596-1)

high Nessus Plugin ID 189459

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM / 18.04 ESM / 20.04 LTS host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-6596-1 advisory.

- In Apache::Session::LDAP before 0.5, validity of the X.509 certificate is not checked by default when connecting to remote LDAP backends, because the default configuration of the Net::LDAPS module for Perl is used. NOTE: this can, for example, be fixed in conjunction with the CVE-2020-16093 fix. (CVE-2020-36658)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libapache-session-ldap-perl package.
