GLSA-202401-18 : zlib: Buffer Overflow

critical Nessus Plugin ID 188045

Description

The remote host is affected by the vulnerability described in GLSA-202401-18 (zlib: Buffer Overflow)

- MiniZip in zlib through 1.3 has an integer overflow and resultant heap-based buffer overflow in zipOpenNewFileInZip4_64 via a long filename, comment, or extra field. NOTE: MiniZip is not a supported part of the zlib product. NOTE: pyminizip through 0.2.6 is also vulnerable because it bundles an affected zlib version, and exposes the applicable MiniZip code through its compress API. (CVE-2023-45853)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

All zlib users should upgrade to the latest version:

# emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose >=sys-libs/zlib-1.2.13-r2
