Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of libXpm installed on the remote host is prior to 3.5.10-2.13. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2023-1894 advisory.

 - A vulnerability was found in libXpm due to a boundary condition within the XpmCreateXpmImageFromBuffer() function. This flaw allows a local attacker to trigger an out-of-bounds read error and read the contents of memory on the system. (CVE-2023-43788)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update libXpm' to update your system.
