Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for c-ares.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 8 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2023:7207 advisory.

- c-ares: Heap buffer over read in ares_parse_soa_reply (CVE-2020-22217)

- c-ares: Buffer Underwrite in ares_inet_net_pton() (CVE-2023-31130)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL c-ares package based on the guidance in RHSA-2023:7207.
