F5 Networks BIG-IP : DNS TCP virtual server vulnerability (K44200194)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 184244

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

The version of F5 Networks BIG-IP installed on the remote host is prior to 11.6.5.3 / 12.1.3.2 / 13.1.0. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the K44200194 advisory.

- In some circumstances, on F5 BIG-IP systems running 13.0.0, 12.1.0 - 12.1.3.1, any 11.6.x or 11.5.x release, or 11.2.1, TCP DNS profile allows excessive buffering due to lack of flow control.
(CVE-2018-5501)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to one of the non-vulnerable versions listed in the F5 Solution K44200194.
