Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-4777-1 advisory.

- The tar package before 2.0.0 for Node.js allows remote attackers to write to arbitrary files via a symlink attack in an archive. (CVE-2015-8860)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected node-tar package.
