Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of thunderbird installed on the remote host is prior to 102.15.0-1. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2248 advisory.

- Thunderbird allowed the Text Direction Override Unicode Character in filenames. An email attachment could be incorrectly shown as being a document file, while in fact it was an executable file. Newer versions of Thunderbird will strip the character and show the correct file extension. This vulnerability affects Thunderbird < 115.0.1 and Thunderbird < 102.13.1. (CVE-2023-3417)

- Memory safety bugs present in Firefox 115, Firefox ESR 115.0, Firefox ESR 102.13, Thunderbird 115.0, and Thunderbird 102.13. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. This vulnerability affects Firefox < 116, Firefox ESR < 102.14, and Firefox ESR < 115.1. (CVE-2023-4056)
