Synopsis

The remote host has an web browser installed that is affected by a vulnerability.

Description

The version of Microsoft Edge installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 116.0.1938.81. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the July 17, 2024 advisory.

- This vulnerability is a cross-site scripting (XSS) issue affecting Microsoft Edge, which an attack can be launched remotely, potentially allowing attackers to execute malicious code in the context of the targeted user's browser session. (CVE-2024-38156)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge version 116.0.1938.81 or later.
