Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing one or more security-related updates.

Description

The remote Debian 11 / 12 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the dsa-5494 advisory.

- Null pointer dereference when viewing a specially crafted email in Mutt >1.5.2 <2.2.12 (CVE-2023-4874)

- Null pointer dereference when composing from a specially crafted draft message in Mutt >1.5.2 <2.2.12 (CVE-2023-4875)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the mutt packages.

For the stable distribution (bookworm), these problems have been fixed in version 2.2.9-1+deb12u1.
