Mattermost Server < 7.8.5 / 7.9.x < 7.9.4 Improper Authorization (MMSA-2023-00157)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 180410

Synopsis

A web application running on the remote server is affected by an improper authorization vulnerability.

Description

The version of Mattermost Server running on the remote host is prior to 7.8.5 or 7.9.x prior to 7.9.4. It is, therefore, affected by an improper authorization vulnerability. Mattermost fails to invalidate existing authorization codes when deauthorizing an OAuth2 app, allowing an attacker possessing an authorization code to generate an access token.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Mattermost Server version 7.8.5, 7.9.4, 7.10.0 or later.
