ImageMagick < 6.9.12-93 / 7.1.1.0 < 7.1.1-15 Buffer Overflow Condition

medium Nessus Plugin ID 179674

Synopsis

The remote Windows host has an application installed that is affected by a buffer overflow condition

Description

The remote Windows host has a version of ImageMagick installed that is prior to 6.9.12-26 or 7.1.1-0 before 7.1.1-11. It is, therefore, affected by a buffer overflow condition in ImageMagick's coders/tiff.c. This flaw allows an attacker to trick the user into opening a specially crafted malicious tiff file, causing an application to crash, resulting in a denial of service.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to an unaffected version of ImageMagick.

Note that you may need to manually uninstall the vulnerable version from the system.
