Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux 2 host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of open-vm-tools installed on the remote host is prior to 12.2.5-1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2-2023-2139 advisory.

 - A fully compromised ESXi host can force VMware Tools to fail to authenticate host-to-guest operations, impacting the confidentiality and integrity of the guest virtual machine. (CVE-2023-20867)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update open-vm-tools' to update your system.
