Dell EMC NetWorker Command Injection (DSA-2023-060)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 177843

Synopsis

The remote Windows host has an application installed that is affected by command injection vulnerability.

Description

The version of Dell EMC NetWorker installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 19.6.1.2, 19.7.0.x 19.7.0.3, and 19.7.1. It is, therefore, affected by command injection vulnerability in the NetWorker client. An unauthenticated, remote attacker could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to the execution of arbitrary OS commands on the application's underlying OS, with the privileges of the vulnerable application. This is a high severity vulnerability as the exploitation allows an attacker to take complete control of a system, so Dell recommends customers to upgrade at the earliest opportunity.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Dell EMC NetWorker 19.7.0.4, 19.8.0.1 or later.
