Ubuntu 18.04 ESM / 22.04 LTS : SVG++ library vulnerabilities (USN-6178-1)

critical Nessus Plugin ID 177433

Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 ESM host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-6178-1 advisory.

- An issue was discovered in SVG++ (aka svgpp) 1.2.3. After calling the gil::get_color function in Generic Image Library in Boost, the return code is used as an address, leading to an Access Violation because of an out-of-bounds read. (CVE-2019-6246)

- In SVGPP SVG++ library 1.3.0, the XMLDocument::getRoot function in the renderDocument function handled the XMLDocument object improperly, returning a null pointer in advance at the second if, resulting in a null pointer reference behind the renderDocument function. (CVE-2021-44960)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libsvgpp-dev package.
