WinSCP < 5.17.10 RCE

critical Nessus Plugin ID 177397

Synopsis

A file transfer application installed on the remote Windows host is affected by a remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

The version of WinSCP installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 5.17.10. It is, therefore, affected by a remote code execution vulnerability that allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary programs when the URL handler encounters a crafted URL that loads session settings. (For example, this is exploitable in a default installation in which WinSCP is the handler for sftp:// URLs.)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to WinSCP version 5.17.10 or later.
