Synopsis

The remote Debian host is missing a security-related update.

Description

The remote Debian 11 host has packages installed that are affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the dsa-5406 advisory.

 - LuaTeX before 1.17.0 allows execution of arbitrary shell commands when compiling a TeX file obtained from an untrusted source. This occurs because luatex-core.lua lets the original io.popen be accessed. This also affects TeX Live before 2023 r66984 and MiKTeX before 23.5. (CVE-2023-32700)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade the texlive-bin packages.

For the stable distribution (bullseye), this problem has been fixed in version 2020.20200327.54578-7+deb11u1.
