Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security update.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 18.04 LTS / 20.04 LTS / 22.04 LTS / 22.10 host has a package installed that is affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the USN-6042-1 advisory.

 - Sensitive data could be exposed in logs of cloud-init before version 23.1.2. An attacker could use this information to find hashed passwords and possibly escalate their privilege. (CVE-2023-1786)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected cloud-init, ec2-init and / or grub-legacy-ec2 packages.
