Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of cifs-utils installed on the remote host is prior to 6.2-7.7. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2023-1698 advisory.

 - In cifs-utils through 6.14, a stack-based buffer overflow when parsing the mount.cifs ip= command-line argument could lead to local attackers gaining root privileges. (CVE-2022-27239)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update cifs-utils' to update your system.
