Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of mysql57 installed on the remote host is prior to 5.7.41-1.18. It is, therefore, affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the ALAS-2023-1686 advisory.

 - Vulnerability in the MySQL Server product of Oracle MySQL (component: InnoDB). Supported versions that are affected are 5.7.33 and prior and 8.0.23 and prior. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server. (CVE-2021-2180)

 - Vulnerability in the MySQL Server product of Oracle MySQL (component: Server: PS). Supported versions that are affected are 5.7.40 and prior. Easily exploitable vulnerability allows high privileged attacker with network access via multiple protocols to compromise MySQL Server. Successful attacks of this vulnerability can result in unauthorized ability to cause a hang or frequently repeatable crash (complete DOS) of MySQL Server. (CVE-2023-21840)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update mysql57' to update your system.
