Security Updates for Microsoft .NET core (February 2023)

high Nessus Plugin ID 171545

Synopsis

The Microsoft .NET core installations on the remote host are affected by a remote code execution vulnerability.

Description

A remote code execution vulnerability exists in .NET core 6.0 < 6.0.14 and .NET Core 7.0 < 7.0.3. This vulnerability exists due to how .NET reads debugging symbols, where reading a malicious symbols file may result in remote code execution. An unauthenticated, local attacker can exploit this, to bypass authentication and execute arbitrary commands.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update .NET Core Runtime to version 6.0.14 or 7.0.3.
