EulerOS 2.0 SP10 : emacs (EulerOS-SA-2023-1382)

high Nessus Plugin ID 171311

Synopsis

The remote EulerOS host is missing a security update.

Description

According to the versions of the emacs package installed, the EulerOS installation on the remote host is affected by the following vulnerabilities :

- GNU Emacs through 28.2 allows attackers to execute commands via shell metacharacters in the name of a source-code file, because lib-src/etags.c uses the system C library function in its implementation of the ctags program. For example, a victim may use the 'ctags *' command (suggested in the ctags documentation) in a situation where the current working directory has contents that depend on untrusted input.
(CVE-2022-45939)

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding description block directly from the EulerOS security advisory. Tenable has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible without introducing additional issues.

Solution

Update the affected emacs packages.
