Amazon Linux 2022 : (ALAS2022-2023-277)

high Nessus Plugin ID 170615

The remote Amazon Linux 2022 host is missing a security update.

It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS2022-2023-277 advisory.

- GNU Emacs through 28.2 allows attackers to execute commands via shell metacharacters in the name of a source-code file, because lib-src/etags.c uses the system C library function in its implementation of the ctags program. For example, a victim may use the ctags * command (suggested in the ctags documentation) in a situation where the current working directory has contents that depend on untrusted input.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Run 'dnf update emacs' to update your system.
