Synopsis

The remote Fedora host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Fedora 36 host has a package installed that is affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the FEDORA-2022-19538a3732 advisory.

- Heap/stack buffer overflow in the dlang_lname function in d-demangle.c in libiberty allows attackers to potentially cause a denial of service (segmentation fault and crash) via a crafted mangled symbol.
(CVE-2021-3826)

- In GNU Binutils before 2.40, there is a heap-buffer-overflow in the error function bfd_getl32 when called from the strip_main function in strip-new via a crafted file. (CVE-2022-38533)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected mingw-binutils package.
