Synopsis

The remote Amazon Linux AMI host is missing a security update.

Description

The version of expat installed on the remote host is prior to 2.1.0-15.32. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability as referenced in the ALAS-2022-1654 advisory.

 - libexpat before 2.4.9 has a use-after-free in the doContent function in xmlparse.c. (CVE-2022-40674)

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Run 'yum update expat' to update your system.
