Xenstore: recursive operations causing xenstored stack exhaustion (XSA-418)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 168020

Synopsis

The remote Xen hypervisor installation is missing a security update.

Description

Xenstore: xenstored is using recursion for some Xenstore operations (e.g. for deleting a sub-tree of Xenstore nodes). With sufficiently deep nesting levels this can result in stack exhaustion leading to a crash.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Apply the appropriate patch according to the vendor advisory.
