VMware Workstation 16.x < 16.2.4 Information Disclosure (VMSA-2022-0023)

medium Nessus Plugin ID 164057

Synopsis

A virtualization application installed on the remote Windows host is affected by an information disclosure vulnerability.

Description

The version of VMware Workstation installed on the remote host is 16.x prior to 16.2.4. It is, therefore, affected by an unprotected storage of credentials vulnerability. A local attacker can exploit this leading to the disclosure of user passwords of the remote server connected through VMware Workstation.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update to VMware Workstation 16.2.4 or later.
