GitLab 12.10 < 15.0.5 / 15.1 < 15.1.4 / 15.2 < 15.2.1 Insufficient Validation

medium Nessus Plugin ID 163832

Synopsis

A source control application running on the remote web server is affected by an insufficient validation vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the instance of GitLab running on the remote web server is 12.10 prior to 15.0.5, 15.1 prior to 15.1.4, or 15.2 prior to 15.2.1. It is, therefore, affected by an insufficient validation vulnerability that allows an authenticated and authorised user to import a project that includes branch names which are 40 hexadecimal characters. A malicious actor could abuse this in supply chain attacks where a victim pinned to a specific Git commit of the project.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to GitLab version 15.0.5, 15.1.4, 15.2.1, or later.
