GitLab < 15.0.5 / 15.1 < 15.1.4 / 15.2 < 15.2.1 Security Bypass

low Nessus Plugin ID 163790

Synopsis

A source control application running on the remote web server is affected by a security bypass vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version, the instance of GitLab running on the remote web server is prior to 15.0.5, 15.1 prior to 15.1.4, or 15.2 prior to 15.2.1. It is, therefore, affected by a security bypass vulnerability due to invited members being able to join a project after the group owner enabled the setting to prevent members from being added if the invite was sent before the setting was enabled. An authenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, to add members or gain access to a project.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to GitLab version 15.0.5, 15.1.4, 15.2.1, or later.
