Synopsis

The remote Ubuntu host is missing one or more security updates.

Description

The remote Ubuntu 16.04 ESM host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the USN-5436-1 advisory.

- Multiple buffer overflows in the (1) XvQueryAdaptors and (2) XvQueryEncodings functions in X.org libXrender before 0.9.10 allow remote X servers to trigger out-of-bounds write operations via vectors involving length fields. (CVE-2016-7949)

- The XRenderQueryFilters function in X.org libXrender before 0.9.10 allows remote X servers to trigger out- of-bounds write operations via vectors involving filter name lengths. (CVE-2016-7950)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the affected libxrender-dev and / or libxrender1 packages.
